An open scientific question

Can a conscious life continue beyond its biological substrate?

The Foundation for Consciousness Continuity develops a rigorous research program around that question—without assuming the answer is yes.

Beyond biology. Beyond imitation. Toward continuity.

The central distinction

Continuity is not resemblance.

A future system might reproduce a person’s memories, language, decisions, and mannerisms. That would establish behavioral or informational similarity. It would not, by itself, establish that the person’s subjective point of view persisted.

Our work begins at this boundary: what evidence could distinguish continued subjectivity from a convincing imitation, reconstruction, or successor?

The Persistence Initiative

A planned, multidisciplinary program to make claims about consciousness continuity precise, testable where possible, and resistant to wishful interpretation.

Standards before claims

What the work requires

Conceptual precision

Define identity, continuity, interruption, and evidence clearly enough to expose disagreement rather than conceal it.

Adversarial testing

Design criteria that a persuasive imitation cannot satisfy merely by producing expected reports or behavior.

Public scrutiny

Publish methods, assumptions, negative findings, and uncertainty so others can challenge the reasoning.
